Cash-for-Vote scam

The Cash-for-Vote scam is a scandal that came into light in 2015. It was alleged that a bribe was offered to Anglo Indian nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson at the behest of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. The Agency has seized the cash in the presence of prime accused Telugu Desam Party MLA Revanth Reddy. The case is being investigated by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Investigation

The initial chargesheet in the scam is a 316-page document and was filed on 28 July 2015. Four persons - TDP MLA Revanth Reddy, Bishop Harry Sebastian, Revanth Reddy's aide Uday Simha and Jerusalem Mattaiah were mentioned in the chargesheet. Case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and for criminal conspiracy were filed against the four. The ACB has recorded the statements of 39 witnesses to file the initial chargesheet.

The name of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu was mentioned 22 times in the chargesheet. It was mentioned that the accused in the case acted at the behest of Chandrababu Naidu.

In December 2015, the Forensic Science Laboratory has sent the forensic reports in the case to the ACB court in batches. The Anti-Corruption Bureau has received them from the court. The forensic report confirmed the audio conversation between Stephenson and Naidu.

As of 20 December 2015, the agency is yet to decide whether to file the supplementary charge sheet naming only Telugu Desam legislator Sandra Venkata Veeraiah or to add the other names that have cropped up during investigations. It was learnt that the agency has not yet determined the source of the money in the case.
