Centre gives nod for land acquisition awaits President’s assent

The Central government has given nod for land acquisition bill. The Home Ministry has sent the same to the President for his approval and the Land Acquisition Bill-2016 is likely to get within two or three days according to sources.
‘The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Act, 2016’ was introduced in the State Assembly. The state wants to complete the projects by speeding up land acquisition under the new Act.
The government in a special one-day session convened the Legislative Assembly and Council passed amendments to the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana) Bill 2016. It may be recalled that the State Assembly that passed the Bill in December 2016 was sent to the Centre for review. The Department of Legal Affairs suggested a procedural and terminology related amendments. The amendments included the date of effect of the Act from January 1, 2014, provision to not affect any vested rights, ensuring adequate compensation to the land owners in the event of acquisition, and replacement of certain terms used in the Bill. The Bill was passed in the Assembly and also by the Legislative Council.
