Centre will procure chilies at Rs.6,200 a quintal
Thursday, May 4, 2017
Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh said on Wednesday that the Centre will procure chilies at Rs.6,200 per quintal to bail out the chili farmers.
Telangana government has already represented the Centre seeking help for the distressed chili farmers in the State. Union Minister for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya said that the Modi government has given Rs.750 crore to the State for Price Stabilization Fund for the purchase of red gram and the government has spent Rs.736 crore.
Telangana government was not happy over the announcement terming it as a not satisfactory package. The first proposal is fixing the price at the reference rate of Rs.8,000 a quintal and compensating the farmers with not more than Rs.1,500 per quintal if the amount fell short. The other one is to purchase at a minimum rate of Rs.7,000 a quintal plus extend hamali charges.
