Hyderabad City becomes Open Defection Free City

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has declared Hyderabad City as an Open Defection Free (ODF) City. It may be recalled GHMC Commissioner B Janagardhan Reddy has issued a notification inviting objections, complaints and suggestions in regard declaration of Hyderabad as an ODF by August 28.

GHMC, the Government of Telangana and various organizations have made all arrangements as per the guidelines of the Swachh Survekshan Mission issued by the Union Government. This included construction of community toilets, pre-fabricated toilets in slums etc. GHMC said it has convinced the owners of fuel stations and restaurants to start and maintain their own toilets for use of public. A series of awareness programs are conducted to educate the public. Penalties are imposed for those who go for open urination. As much as Rs. 38,120 was collected from 225 such persons since April 2016.
