K Kavitha

Kalvakuntla Kavitha is a Member of Parliament and politician belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. She was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nizamabad constituency. Kavitha is the founder of Telangana Jagruti Samiti. Before venturing into active politics, she is an engineer by profession.

Kavitha is also the leader of the Singareni Boggugani Karmika Sangham at Singareni Collieries Company.


Kavitha is the daughter of TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao and brother of TRS MLA K Taraka Rama Rao.

Kavitha often appears wearing a traditional saree and bindi.

She is married to Anil, a mechanical engineer who hails from Bodhan in Nizamabad.


She studied at Stanley High School in Hyderabad and later received her master's from University of Southern Missisippi, US. She returned back to join the Telangana movement.

Telangana Movement

Hailing from a family with politicians, Kavitha has been part of the Telangana movement since 2004.

In the 2009 elections, Kavitha showed interest to contest Assembly from Huzurnagar constituency in Karimnagar district.

In April 2012, Kavitha launched a 48-hour hunger strike demanding the installation of Dr. BR Ambedkar statue in the Andhra Pradesh assembly.

Her wish however was denied by her father KCR who was the chief of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party. It was in 2010, Kavitha came into limelight when she was at the forefront of the Million March at Tank bund. From then on, she participated actively in the Telangana movement. She agitated against Telugu films produced by Seemandhra producers and launched a campaign against NTR-starrer Adurs.

2014 Elections

Kavitha was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nizamabad parliamentary constituency. She successfully defeated Congress heavy weight and two-time MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi.
