A 40-year-old man G Venkateshwarlu, who is wanted in a property offence case, has allegedly committed suicide in front of the camp office of Khammam SP. He allegedly consumed pesticide along with his wife. Venkateshwarlu died while being shifted to a hospital, which his wife is battling for life. His relatives blamed the police harassment for the suicide, which the police officials rebutted. Apr 24, 2014

Politics

Khammam is a political nerve centre in south Telangana. The TRS party which swept the 2014 Assembly elections managed to win just 1 out of 10 Assembly constituencies in Khammam district. TRS won the Palair Assembly constituency by-poll in 2016 ending Congress party's strong hold over the constituency. However, the TRS party later admitted a number of senior politicians from the opposition parties. As of 2016, the TRS party has 7 MLAs from Khammam district.
