The Mallannasagar Reservoir is part of the Pranahita-Kandi project. The reservoir will be constructed in an area of 16,000 acres of land in Toguta and Kondapaka mandals. The Mallannasagar reservoir will have a capacity of 50 tmcft. The Pranahita-Kandi project will cater to the needs of Ranga Reddy, Medak, Nizamabad, Warangal and Nalgonda districts. The project is estimated at a cost of Rs. 9,800 crore.
An area of 16,000 acres is required for the construction of the Mallannasagar reservoir. As of May 2016, the district administration of Medak has already begun acquisition of land for the construction of the reservoir. As of May 12, 2016, 3,000 acres has been acquired and the remaining 13,000 acres will be acquired subsequently.
Etigadda Kishtapur, Toguta, Tukkapur, Vemulaghat and Pallepahad villages in Toguta mandal and Kondapaka, Singaram and Erravalli villages of Kondapaka mandal will be adversely affected with the construction of the project. The officials are planning to pay compensation to the 1,840 families affected by construction of reservoir in a single package.
