Telangana State Council of Higher Education
The Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) was constituted by the Telangana government empowering vice-chancellor of seven universities as its council members.
The government issued an order adapting the Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE) Act, 1988. The order issued by the department of higher education has appointed the vice chancellors of Osmania University, Kakatiya University, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Telangana University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Palamuru University and Satavahana University as council members.
The current TSCHE chairman is T Papi Reddy.
Choice Based Credit System
The TSCHE is implementing Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for awarding grades to post-graduate and under-graduate students in State universities of Telangana. The CBCS will be implemented in all colleges for under-graduate students across Telangana from 2016 onwards. Under CBCS method, students will be awarded grade points for their performance in exams each semester, and final Grade Point Average (GPA) will be calculated.
TSCHE is planning to conduct a series of workshops for teachers to ensure that there is standardisation while implementing the CBCS method. The workshops will be held by respective departments in universities to apprise faculty members about the grading pattern.
Degree holders' details to be available online
On March 11, 2016, it was announced that the TSCHE will consolidate the data of all degree holders and place it online for verification. Data from 2011 will be open for public. Prospective employers can use this data to verify the credentials of any candidate online. The initiative will curb fake degree certificates and fake credentials in the future.
The data that will be placed online will include: academic details like marks secured and also personal details such as parents' names and the colleges they attended.
A final decision on the proposal will be taken at the meeting of the Registrars and Controller of Examinations of all the universities in Telangana.
